Pregnancy can be a worrying time, and especially when it comes to exercising .  We all know that staying active is good for us, and our growing babies.  But how do we know what exercise is safe?  Can we overdo things? And what exercise is most beneficial?

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way we could enjoy working out at the level we wanted, safe in the knowledge that all the exercises were based on the best medical research and evidence?

Well now there is.  Thanks to the new exercise DVD, ‘Proper Exercise in Pregnancy’, from British-based ‘Ready Steady Mums’ you have one less thing to worry about in pregnancy.

And Ready Steady Mums will take you beyond a healthy pregnancy with a unique approach to exercise as a new mom.

What is Ready Steady Mums? Tried and trusted by moms-to-be in the UK, it is a comprehensive fitness scheme for pregnancy and beyond, helping moms to incorporate safe exercise into their busy lives, through a unique combination of expert guidance and community mobilisation.

The Ready Steady Mums movement comprises two distinct elements:

In pregnancy, a complete exercise package on a single DVD.  Featuring real moms-to-be in their second or third trimester, it incorporates Strength and Tone; Pilates; and Yoga, all led by a qualified prenatal instructor, with additional sessions on meditation, relaxation and looking after your body during pregnancy.  Each session includes advanced options, so it can be used by women of all fitness levels and pregnancy stages.

For new moms, volunteers organise fun and sociable weekly exercise workouts in local communities.  It’s practical – babies and kids come too, and flexible – with everyone exercising at her own pace.  Each mom is supported by an online Virtual Personal Trainer service which includes advice and guidance on safe and beneficial physical activity from day one post childbirth.
Safe and practical, the Ready Steady Mums approach to pregnancy and postnatal exercise is adaptable, and allows you to create your own bespoke workout pitched at the ideal level to suit your changing body.

Ready Steady Mums founder, Katy Tuncer, herself a former track athlete and army physical training instructor, said:

“Some moms-to-be love exercising whilst pregnant and others would rather do anything than get sweaty, but they know that exercising is important.  Our Ready Steady Mums movement is about making fitness accessible for all – pre and post baby. Our ‘Proper Exercise in Pregnancy’ DVD is about helping every mom-to-be to stay active during her pregnancy in a safe way, and I’m excited we’re making it available to US and Canadian moms-to-be now too.”

During her own pregnancy Katy knew that the correct exercise regime was vital.

“I wanted to continue exercising throughout my pregnancy but realized that I would have to adjust what I was doing.  I needed to work within new limitations.  I researched the medical literature, sought out, and worked with the top experts in prenatal exercise”

“Speaking from my own experience,” said Katy, “I know that there were some days when I literally had to force myself to exercise, but staying fit and active was good for me and my baby, and had a very positive impact on my labor, recovery and postnatal health.”
As a new mom, Katy worked with experts to tailor an exercise program for herself, which she went onto adapt for hundreds of other mothers with different personal needs. Industry experts including midwives, doctors, physiotherapists, gynecologists and doulas contributed to the research and development upon which the online Virtual Personal Trainer service is based.  Katy then worked with fellow moms to create the community-led Local RSM scheme. The final result was Ready Steady Mums, a perfect combination of pre and postnatal exercise.

Like the rest of the Ready Steady Mums program, the new ‘Proper Exercise in Pregnancy’ DVD is based on the latest medical research – developed and endorsed by medical professionals including Mark Slack, Head of Urogynaecology at the world renowned Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, UK.
